It was tough to share the news about the car shooting on The Las Vegas Strip this week. It took place just a couple miles from my office. It took place in a spot where I regularly visit and drive my family. I live in Las Vegas and I love the people in this city. Tourists don't think about the community of people behind Las Vegas. They just think "Sin City," but it's so much more.
We live here, we work here, we raise our families here. This is our home. As I watched TV yesterday, all the national media talked about was the darkness of Sin City. It's not reflective of the people or the families or the churches who reside in Las Vegas. We have chosen this city as our home and God is doing BIG things in this community. I see a lot of HOPE here.
We forget that the Bible says, "Where sin abounds, God's grace does so much more." (Romans 5:20 talks more about it) I've never lived in a city where I felt more love and genuine grace from other people.
We hear stories everyday from our SOS Radio listeners calling in and posting on our Facebook page about how God is doing HUGE things in their lives, in their jobs, in their schools and in their families. When you live in a dark place, a little tiny light does make a difference. Don't let scary things and evil people steal your hope, your security or your faith. There are lots of loving, honest people in Las Vegas who are shining their light everyday to this community. Be encouraged. I love Las Vegas.

Thank you for this. The news
Fri 02/22/13 by Jill (not verified)Thank you for this. The news yesterday really got to me. I don't consider this place home, but it is where God has placed me & my husband, whether I like it or not. He has blessed my husbands work, and has provided a house for us here. I have witnessed several situations since we've been here that make me feel vulnerable & unsafe. Sometimes it's hard to remember that we are in God's hands. You are right, there is so much more to this town than just the one famous street. There are kind people & loving families here. God is working in this place no matter what the news reports about us.
I wish I could share your
Fri 02/22/13 by Anonymous (not verified)I wish I could share your enthusiasm about Las Vegas. I have lived here for 15 years and while I have met some nice people, I have been in contact with more scammers and dishonest people. I've met more people who have been victims of crime here (as have I) than where I was born and raised. When I return home to Colorado, I am often taken aback by the kindness and sincerity of the people there. It makes me homesick...especially when I am here in Las Vegas and dealing with the rude people I ome in contact with daily. Thank the Lord for church, the only place I have found a community of gracious, decent people.
