MICHAEL W SMITH-THE WONDERFUL CROSS
We started a new holiday tradition in our house this year.
Elf on the Shelf.
If you're not familiar with the concept, "Elf on the Shelf" is a box that contains a small elf doll and the "Elf on the Shelf" book. According to the story, the elf is a Scout Elf, sent straight from the North Pole to serve as the eyes and ears of Santa Claus. Yes, that's right. The Elf on the Shelf is Santa's nark. In theory, your children will always behave around the holiday season because they'll know that their elf is always watching.
My eighteen month old daughter June named her elf Ian (Or that's what it sounded like when we asked her what we should call the elf) and giggles whenever she sees him. We think it's going to be a fun new tradition in the Hall House.
Meanwhile, my four-year-old nephew has a different opinion on the subject. When his mom brought home the "Elf on the Shelf" box and began to explain the story, he immediately told her to return him to the store because he was 'creepy.'
