COMPLETELY BY AMONG THE THIRSTY
The true story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas on Myra. He was born in a village on the south coast of Turkey in the 3rd century. He came from a really wealthy Christian family, but he lsot both parents when he was young.
St Nicholas took Jesus words to heart where He said "sell what you own and give to the poor." St Nick basically gave away his whole inheritance to the people he met with hurts, habits and hangups. He became famous for his generosity and gift giving in the name of Jesus.
Nicholas was named Bishop of Myra when he was a young man nad lived through a treacherous time of persecution in the early church. Nicholas was even part of the Council of Nicaea where the Bible was canonized.
Over the years, lots of stories of his gift giving and help to the poor have taken on a life of thier own. The spirit of St Nicholas is a big part of the legend of Santa Clause... (Santa actually means saint)
I just love how St Nicholas' passion for gift giving all went back to his quest to be more and more like Jesus!
