The Wildland Firefighting Foundation: There are about 19 Hotshot crews battling the blaze up on Mt Charleston. This is approximately 10% of the entire country's Hotshot crews. The recent deaths of 19 wildland firefighters from the Granite Mountain Hotshots has really focused our attention on how dangerous the work they do really is. The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada: The Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire- the residents who have had to evacuate their homes, have lost their homes, and still may lose their homes. They are providing shelter, meals, clothing, and other necessities. The Red Cross accepts assistance in the forms of monetary donations and volunteering. In addition to helping out with the displaced residents of the Mt Charleston fire, they respond to and assist with other home fires in southern Nevada approximately every 11 hours.
