SEVENTH DAY SLUMBER-FROM THE INSIDE OUT
Amy & I talked about fire ladders today on the Momsaver.
There's nothing more annoying to a parent than hearing the three deaded summertime words: "MOM, I'm BORED!" Here's a few fun ideas you can do with the kids this week with minimal planning!
Paper mache! (Cut up newspaper strips and shape them into something fun with flour & water) Blow up some balloons and cover them in the paper mache strips and make a piñata! Fill it with candy and have even more fun
Print off a new coloring page and color with them
Visit your local library and pick out 5 new books or check for their story time.
Summer movies at your local theater. Most movie chains have kids movies before noon and they are either free or $1 per person.
Here's a powerful miracle story about Aaron Shust's little son Michael.
We Ask God to do it! In Romans 12, St Paul warns us, "Don’t conform to this age. Instead, be transformed by renewing your minds."
Once a month or so, I'll sneak out and grab Five Guys. It's one of my too many fast food indulgences. And I KNOW better, but "the flesh is weak" sometimes.
So last week, I'm jumping back into my ride after swinging by Five Guys. And I heard some news report about making healthy eating choices.
For a moment, I felt guilty about my lunch. Then my head cooked up images of people in my life who take GREAT care of themselves. They eat right. They work out. Frequently. They make it known. Frequently. All I know about these people centers on their appearance, because that's all they seem to focus on. It comes off as one-dimensional and uninteresting to me.
Relationship expert Dr. Greg Smalley talks about addressing conflict in marriage and how to fight fair. We also have a discussion with listeners about conflict vs. fighting. This podcast will encourage you!
Conflict doesn't have to be a bad thing. It's actually something that almost always catapults us forward.
Author Donald Miller says, “God’s more interested in the outcome of our story and he is interested in the conflict it takes to get there. God is more interested in you experiencing meaning that finding pleasure, so he doesn’t have a problem letting you go through conflict. If God were directing your story, he’d probably say two things: 1. Allow your character to be transformed 2. Make sure your story is about saving lives.”
If you need a good cry, Go to "Welcome Home Blog." It's a whole blog dedicated to soldiers returning home from war surprising their families.
Don't go to the site without a tissue. I lost my man card on this site.
I REALLY believe in child sponsorship through Compassion International. Kristine and I have sponsored two children. Brayan from El Salvador & Omar from Kenya. We write letters and they write back. Their teachers report their grades, their spiritual growth and progress in school. Here's the coolest thing- Compassion sent us a note that Brayan's family situation had improved so much that he & his siblings have graduated out of the program! His parents were able to start a bakery business and it's really taken off in El Salvador! I love seeing how our simple $38 a month gifts can bloom into something that can help break the cycle of poverty for an entire family!
