Church takes Ash Wednesday to the Streets

Ascension Church is part of a new nationwide movement that has clergy and lay people visiting transit stops, street corners, coffee shops, and college campuses to mark the foreheads of interested passers-by with ashes and invite them to repent of past wrongdoing and seek forgiveness and renewal.
We are located downtown at the corner of Maryland Parkway and Bridger Avenue. Our school has been around since 1958 and we are currently celebrating our 56th year; we added a preschool 7 years ago. As our wonderful city has grown to fill the valley, we have chosen to remain as a fixture in the downtown area. Our school has been the elementary school "home" to thousands of children over the past 56 years. Andre Agassi (professional tennis player) and Vernon Fox (a 9 year veteran of the NFL, whose children also attend our Preschool) are a couple of our most highly recognized graduates. We also graduated children who have gone on to be high ranking military officers, engineers, doctors, and possibly the most important, TEACHERS.

Participants will be broken up into teams to clean the playground, weed along the loop trail, clear debris along the fence line, clear trash and remove graffiti along the adjacent trail, and possibly paint hydrants in the neighborhood. This is an opportunity for us to show Christ’s love in action by helping to beautify our city. Meet at the Desert Spring parking lot at 9:30 am and plan to be back at the church by 12:30. Bring work gloves, smiling faces, and a willingness to get your hands dirty. All are welcome!
