NEVER TOO FAR GONE BY JORDAN FELIZ
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month
According to the CDC, 25,000 babies will die in the United States before their first year of life. That means in every state, on every day, an infant will be lost and a family will be left alone to pick themselves up from lost hope and lost love. Sadly, this number is ever increased when counting the endless miscarriages that are not recorded in national statistics. Infant mortality is only recorded after 20 weeks gestation and up to the first year of life.
October 15th is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, and Jalen’s Gift Foundation is holding a vigil on this day to honor, remember, and celebrate our babies that have been lost in pregnancy or infancy. The event will take place at The Green Park, in the Green Valley Ranch District, located right behind the Cheesecake Factory from 6:00-8:00pm. This event will not only promote awareness on such tragic loss, but also bring the community together to grieve as one. There are no words to explain such loss. No one should have to grieve alone.
On this day in homes across our nation and around the world, families will light candles to celebrate the lives that have been lost, and will continue to be lost until we reach our goal of a future where all babies survive and thrive. However, on this day, we will do more than light a candle in honor of our lost loved ones. We are going to light the entire Green Park pink and blue in honor of the official colors of pregnancy and infant loss with LED lights, glow sticks, lighted balloons, and other lighting arrangements to fully promote awareness about infant loss, and honor the babies that have been lost.
