I REALLY believe in child sponsorship through Compassion International. Kristine and I have sponsored two children. Brayan from El Salvador & Omar from Kenya. We write letters and they write back. Their teachers report their grades, their spiritual growth and progress in school. Here's the coolest thing- Compassion sent us a note that Brayan's family situation had improved so much that he & his siblings have graduated out of the program! His parents were able to start a bakery business and it's really taken off in El Salvador! I love seeing how our simple $38 a month gifts can bloom into something that can help break the cycle of poverty for an entire family!

It's no secret that I'm a Star Trek geek. Not in the "Trekkie" sense where I get costumed up and chase conventions (at least not yet...sounds fun though!). One of the things that's most fascinated me in many of the Trek movies and shows is the idea that space and time aren't as concrete as we think they are.
Without meaning to, that concept acknowledges our limitless God. He is never bound by the clock, never hindered by square footage, never kept at bay by the size of a checking account.
Lately I've experienced a few things that line up with a prayer I stopped praying years ago. I never stopped wanting what I had prayed for, nor did I give up on these things. I simpy got swept up in life and had to focus on other concerns.
God’s really worked on my heart over the last few years and challenged my wife and I to shift the way we look at generosity. Many of us have looked at a poverty mindset on one end of the spectrum and a prosperity mindset on the other end when it comes to money. That's because the Bible cautions us not to let money control is, but it also talks about how giving and living generously do bring blessing into our life. I think we get a little out of balance because we let the greedy people of the world taint our view of giving. I want you to know, my heart isn’t really focused on either mindset in that pendulum. It's not a poverty mindset OR a prosperity mindset. My family is seeking a Biblical mindset. If Gods word speaks clearly about something I want to own that.
