As I pulled up to the grocery store, I scanned the parking lot for a shady spot.
There was only one, and it had been taken. In fact, there was only one tree in the entire lot, offering just enough shade for one space… and the man walking from his vehicle had a smile on his face. Well done, sir.
I looked at that tree, and realized that it wasn’t bothered by the sun and heat like I was.
In fact, it wasn’t working hard to keep that little parking spot shaded. It was just doing what trees do; connect with the sun and soak up all that glorious sunshine. The fact that it provided shade was just a natural part of that process.

My 4-year old son was so excited to feed the birds with the birdfeeder he'd picked out at the store! I grabbed a big bag of bird seed, opened the top, and started to pour the seed in.
"Dad, I wanna do it!"
The bag was too much for the little guy to handle, so we got out a cup. I filled his cup, and he poured it into the feeder. Each time he'd hear the sound of the seed cascading down into it, he'd giggle in excitement. And when his cup was empty, he'd look up at me, and I'd refill it, so he could pour it in again.

I can't make an orange. But I know who can.
This weekend, I planted two fruit trees in my back yard. I live in the Mojave desert, so I went with orange and lime. I began thinking about the other kinds of fruit in my life.
As in, the fruit of the Spirit.
The Bible talks about it in Galations 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
If I want to have more patience in my life, it's a similar process to having more oranges (or limes, for that matter) in my life.
