Event Date:
05/03/2014 - 10:00am

Join us at the Old Las Vegas Fort, a Nevada State Park, at 500 E. Washington Ave, Las Vegas, NV. Shirley Nelson will be visiting us from Tuba City, Arizona, the heart of the Dine (Navajo) Nation. Shirley grew up the child of a single mother who supported her young family with simple bead work earrings and other jewelry. Thus, Shirley learned her craft at a very young age, and is now a gifted artist who is passing the tradition of fine bead work, and the craft of Heishi and Cedar Berry necklaces and bracelets, down to her own grandchildren. She will appear with her daughter-in-law, Charmayne Nelson, who specializes in beaded bracelets. Both ladies will demonstrate how they make the beaded jewelry and Shirley will demonstrate how dream catchers are made with a small loom and hide.

The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph, his father's favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. He is purchased by Potiphar where thwarting advances from Potiphar's wife lands him in jail. When news of Joseph's gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh (wryly and riotously depicted as Elvis), Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command. Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize.
