The Nevada Council of the Blind is holding a white cane Awareness walk this coming Sunday, April 24, 2016, from 3 pm to 5 pm.
Walkers will gather at the Paratransit drop off point behind the 4 Queens hotel and casino on Carson St, walk West to Casino Center (turn right), walk North to Fremont Street, walk East on Fremont Street to Container Park. We will be stopping along the way, gathering in a group to cheer and do chants.
Statistics from the American Foundation for the Blind show that only approximately three percent of the blind eligible to use a white cane do so. As a result, few in our community know about white canes as used by the blind to get around.
