“Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!’”
John 20:1-2
Jesus foretold His death and resurrection several times during His ministry. These predictions were so paramount to the religious leaders that they heavily secured the tomb and even added a Roman seal.
Jesus did exactly what He said He would do through the Cross. Even though we are commanded to “live by faith and not by sight,” more often than not, we do the opposite. Thomas, one of Jesus’ disciples said, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” A couple days later Jesus appeared to Thomas and said, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
Early on Easter Sunday, Jesus appeared on the beach of the Sea of Galilee while the disciples were in the water fishing. Peter was the first to jump out of the boat to swim toward Jesus. If you recall, two days ago at Jesus’ trial, Peter denied Jesus three times. I can imagine Peter still felt ashamed and worthless wondering what kind of welcome he would get from Jesus when reached the shore.
If the Easter story reminds you of anything, allow it to remind you that nothing you ever have done or said can disqualify you from running (or swimming) to Him and being accepted. The only thing He asks for is a willing heart. He’s ready to give His love, but He’ll never force it upon you.
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
Revelation 3:20
The Palm Branches that were laid out before Jesus one week ago on Palm Sunday were symbolic of honoring a triumphant, victorious hero. As we celebrate Easter Sunday today, know that no matter what struggles you’re facing, no matter how many lies the enemy is speaking to you, you have a victorious hero by your side fighting your battles for you! Because He lives, you can face tomorrow!
