In Proverbs, King Solomon challenges us to love with abandon. He said, "When you live a life of abandoned love, surrendered before the awe of God, here’s what you’ll experience: Abundant life. Continual protection. And complete satisfaction! (Read more in Proverbs 19:23 TPT)
To love with abandon basically means we love without any expectation from others. It's the way Solomon sees God's love for sinful, prideful, agenda driven humans like us. It's to love with a whole heart, without giving any thought to outside influence or agenda.
The NIV translation of Proverbs 19 says it like this; Love God with your whole heart. "The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble."
Think about your circle of influence! Jesus told us the two most important commandments are to love God and love others. Our world will know we follow Jesus when they experience our love one another. You cannot control how others behave, but you can control how you respond, and how you behave in return. Be quick to listen, slow to speak, quick to forgive and always be looking for ways to serve your fellow man.
"Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” -Hebrews 13:1-3 NIV
