We Can Ask Why, But Also Ask Who!

Maybe the stress, worry and rampant evil in our world make you ask why???

It’s OK to ask God WHY when we do it in a respectful way. I’ve wondered why God allows evil in our world. I’ve wondered why people let me down. I’ve wondered why people jump to the extremes. I’ve wondered why there’s sickness in our world. I’ve wondered why people attack innocent students shopping for school supplies or attack people who hold a different worldview.

I’ve learned that the question isn’t just WHY, but also WHO?

Who is this God that we want to frame evil, pain & anxiety on?

(It’s the same person we want to frame love, acceptance, joy, peace, healing & reconciliation on!)

God doesn’t reveal his ideas on the front page of CNN through click bait headlines. He reveals his heart and his plans inside the pages of the Bible.

God consistently reveals himself with words like:

Redeemer, healer, father, messiah, savior, mighty warrior, defender, creator, the God who listens, the God who fights for us, the God of restoration.

How does God reveal who He actually is?

In John 15 Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (NIV)

As we abide in Christ we bear fruit. As we work in unity, there’s transformation, and the world sees that fruit!

Jesus says they will know us by our fruit in John 13:35 (Paul talks about that fruit in Galatians too – love, joy, peace patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness & self control)

As we abide in Christ, we develop fruit that the people around us cannot ignore! That's where we focus our hope!
