Tough Question: How Do We Take Our Thoughts Captive?

I had an email from Kelli. She asked, how do we live a life at work and renew our mind each day like the Bible talks about?

We Ask God to do it! In Romans 12, Paul warns us, “Don’t conform to this age. Instead, be transformed by renewing your minds.” (NLT)

I’ve found the best way to stay grounded in this is to go out of our way to make God’s word (The Bible) my moral and spiritual foundation. I try to line up all my logic to make sure it falls under the authority of the Bible. I ask Jesus to renew my mind.

James 1:7 says: “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” (NLT)

God’s Word never changes. It always trumps the so called “truth” that comes out of culture.

Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (NLT)

Jesus even confirmed that everything in the Old Testament is God’s Word. When I hear some “wisdom” that sounds logical, I want to put it through the filter of God’s Word and make sure it’s in agreement, or it’s not really “Godly wisdom.”

I ask God to renew my mind and work in my heart. I choose to make the Bible my moral AND spiritual foundation. I choose to make the Bible the lens that I look at news, logic, politics and faith through. I choose to make Jesus the center of my life, not just a part of my life.
